BLACKBURN FILM FUND

Inspiring Lancashire’s talented filmmakers to bring their creative ideas to life

What’s your great short film idea?

Three grants of up to £2000 are available to support emerging filmmakers and production companies in Lancashire.

There are unbelievably talented filmmakers and storytellers in Lancashire that need a little support to bring their ideas to life. The Blackburn Film Fund has been created to help creatives achieve their ambitions and draw attention to our regions talented filmmakers.

The grants will be awarded to filmmakers who can propose exciting short film ideas that celebrate our cultural identity. We are excited to see how you interpret this brief!

We want to encourage, support and celebrate film making talent from Lancashire so your films will be screened at the inaugural Blackburn Film Festival. This will take place in Blackburn alongside The National Festival of Making on the 5th and 6th of July.

We can provide advice, support and, where needed, access to equipment to allow filmmakers to complete their productions.

These funds can be used to support production costs and applicants should be able to outline how they anticipate using the funds.

Applications must include:

  • A treatment document and any supporting preproduction (Script, storyboards etc.)
  • Links to showreels/previous work.
  • A budget breakdown of how you will spend the funds.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to pitch to the judges.

Applications will be judged by a panel of filmmaking professionals and educators with the winning applicants announced in March 2025.

Applications closed – winning applicants will be contacted soon!

We are looking applicants who have great short film ideas and a burgeoning track record of successful projects.

Films must be produced in the Blackburn with Darwen area and provide placements for Blackburn Film Academy students.
